Cumbrian Newsprint, the contract printing subsidiary of CN Group, is boosting the output of its seven-year-old KBA Comet newspaper press for the second time.

Cumbrian Newsprint, the contract printing subsidiary of CN Group, is boosting the output of its seven-year-old KBA Comet newspaper press for the second time Having added a tower, an additional folder and converted another in 2000, the busy Carlisle printer is now boosting the press to total 4/4 operation

The £1.2 million spend with KBA will include the upgrade of an existing mono tower and the provision of an additional 4/4 tower to provide up to 128 tabloid pages of full colour in one pass.

"The Comet has performed excellently over the years.

It still has a long productive life ahead of it and is well worth this new investment to give us 100 per cent colour," said CN Group technical director, Peter Simpson.

Cumbrian Newsprint prints a wide variety of newspapers published by its own group including 31,000 daily copies of the 'News and Star' and 40,000 weekly copies of the 'The Cumberland News'.

Amongst its list of external contract printing customers is News International for whom the plant produces 100,000 copies of the Scottish edition of 'The Sun' five nights a week. Request a free brochure from KBA ...
