Dutch Printer Extends KBA Production Capacity
Dutch printing house Janssen Pers Rotatiedruk, a longstanding KBA customer based in Gennep, has ordered an extension to the single-width Continent web press it installed in 1999.
Suthikiati Chirathivat, chairman of the Post Publishing executive committee said: "The expansion of our print capacity with the KBA Prisma is the largest investment to date for the company and marks a new point in its 58-year history.
It demonstrates our confidence in the future of the publishing industry, which is underpinned by the fact that, over the past year, newspaper advertising in Thailand showed growth well outstripping that of other media channels.
The investment in modern, high-capacity printing technology from KBA will allow us to accept even more print advertisements, as the existing presses have already been running at full capacity since the introduction of the 'Post Today' two years ago.

KBA Readies New SLF Presses For Market
The biggest SLF offset press on the international market entered the final phase of production at the beginning of November 2003 with the successful conclusion of sheet-run trials at KBA's factory.
It will help to support significant growth in future sales.
At the same time, the new press will facilitate greater efficiency in our printing process and promote the expansion of the new business daily, which is targeted to reach a daily circulation of 200,000 within the next few years." He continued: "Our evaluation of the ideal press system supplier followed an intensive planning phase with some very demanding print tests on a Prisma installation at the KBA facility in Wurzburg as well as detailed technical comparisons of the short-listed presses.
In the end, it was the high print quality and the mature, user-friendly 4/1 concept of the Prisma which clinched the deal for Koenig and Bauer." The Prisma for Post Publishing is capable of printing up to 75,000 copies of a full-colour 32-page newspaper per hour.
The new press line is expected to come on stream at the beginning of 2006 and will take over production from two existing competitor presses with capacities of 30,000 copies per hour (cph) each.
With a cut-of length of 546mm (21.5"), the web width can be varied in two-inch increments between 1,219.2mm (48")and 1,574.8mm (62").
The installation will incorporate four Pastostar RC reelstands with KBA Patras M reel handling, four towers for either 4/4 or two x 2/2 production, automatic ink supplies and blanket washing, colour and cut-off register controls and a KF 3 double folder.
A balloon former will enable up to four sections to be produced simultaneously and the super-panorama pre-fold facility will permit the folding of four double-spread broadsheet pages side by side, which can then be inserted into the newspaper as a separate product, or integrated into one section as a centre-spread display advertisement, which KBA claimed to be an innovative option that is becoming increasingly popular with advertising customers.
The press will be controlled from three consoles and will also feature the Print PP production scheduling and pre-setting system, the VIP statistics system from EAE and a diagnostics PC.
Installation is to be accompanied by a comprehensive program of training. Request a free brochure from KBA ...
