Following an order from Holbaek (Denmark) media house A/S Medieselskabet Nordvestsjaelland, Koenig and Bauer (KBA) will be delivering another single-width double-circumference Comet series press The floor-mounted press, with reelstands arranged at right angles, is scheduled to come on stream at the end of 2005

It will then be responsible for the printing of the company's two own daily newspapers Holbaek Amts Venstreblad and Kalundborg Folkeblad, with weekday circulations of 18,000 and 8,500 copies and average paginations of 24 and 20 broadsheet pages, respectively.

At the same time, the Comet is earmarked to produce the media group's seven weekly frees in a total circulation of 156,000 copies.

During the nine holiday weeks, that circulation is raised further to over 221,000 newspapers to cater for the many summer homes in the area.

The free newspapers generally comprise between 48 and 64 tabloid pages.

Mogens Flyvholm, director of A/S Medieselskabet Nordvestsjaelland said: "It became necessary to modernise our print capacities to secure our market position.

The facilities for more economical and faster newspaper production, with the option of full four-colour output, are our response to the rapidly changing media market.

Our production structure is characterised by many separate jobs and relatively short runs, with a current maximum required capacity of 64 four-colour tabloid pages from a single production cycle.

In the end, it was the excellent print quality, high production flexibility, low waste rates, fast make-ready and thus greater performance of the Comet and indeed of all the many KBA presses in Denmark, which clinched the deal for Koenig and Bauer after our extensive analyses to equate press capabilities to our particular production demands." The Comet has been ordered in a configuration with a cylinder circumference of 1,120mm and a standard web width of 790mm and is designed for a maximum output of 75,000 copies per hour (cph) in non-collect production.

The web width is variable from 635mm to 790mm.

The overall press line includes four KBA Pastoline reelstands with KBA Patras M reel handling, four H-type four-high towers for 4/4 production with colour and cut-off register controls and automatic ink supplies.

The installation will also include a KF 3 jaw folder (2:3:3 cylinder ratio) and two EAE control consoles with the Print PP job scheduling and pre-setting system, a RIP interface and a diagnostics PC for remote maintenance.

A KBA section stitcher and facilities for gluing and a quarterfold for production flexibility added KBA. Request a free brochure from KBA ...
