The high-speed 16-page Compacta 217 press is gaining more followers and to boost production capacity, Kunst und Werbedruck in Bad Oeynhausen (Germany) has just decided in favour of the KBA-manufactured machine.

K+Ws fleet of sheetfed equipment includes a 10-colour press with a roller hopper feeder, two five-colour presses with finishing and a two-colour unit.

Web printing is handled by a KBA Compacta 214.

Finishing work is dealt with in-house using two trimming lines, four folding machines and two gang stitchers.

Mixed jobs using sheet-fed and web equipment are the order of the day at K+W which has positioned itself as an one-stop supplier of services ranging from product development to digital CTP pre-press and all finishing requirements.

A despatch department takes care of all logistics with service ranging from bulk deliveries through to direct mail.

The Compacta 217 is a semi-automatic press designed for large as well as medium and small production runs.

Features such as low start-up waste thanks to comprehensive pre-settings, short make-ready periods from automatic plate changing, automatically adjustable inking units, imprinter changeovers for both sides of the paper (without a press stop) plus stock and fold options add up to produce a web press with a broad range of commercial applications believes KBA.

Two of the five printing units for K+W are to feature fully automatic plate changing equipment, whilst the remaining three will have a semi-automatic system.

KBA's tried and tested imprinter technology on the first two units promotes flying imprinter changeovers, even for partial runs.

The P3 pin folder with an additional 2x8-page module provides maximum production variety and a closed-loop colour control system ensures good print results quickly.

Gluing, softening and re-moistening equipment will also be included.

The Compacta 217 is due to commence production in Bad Oeynhausen in January 2006.

KBA said it would soon be able to report the sale of a further commercial web press of the same type in Germany.
