Shaftless Press To Focus On Fast, Short-Run Jobs
Sales of KBA commercial and newspaper web offset presses in Belgium have grown strongly in recent years, according to the German press manufacturer.
Sales of KBA commercial and newspaper web offset presses in Belgium have grown strongly in recent years, according to the German press manufacturer.
Now Drukkerij A de Cuyper in that country has re-affirmed its confidence in KBA technology by placing an order for a 24-page Compacta 318 to expand commercial production capacity at its plant in Zele.
A family-run business that celebrates its centenary this year, De Cuyper was a pioneer of coldset and heatset printing, said KBA and the company's success has been driven by the skill and experience of its staff supported by technology.
Its press hall currently houses a 16-page Compacta 215, another 16-page press and three sheetfed presses.
De Cuyper offers its customer base an all-round service that includes direct mail.
Management said it is confident that the new shaftless C318, which features minigaps in the plate and blanket cylinders and an F3 pinless gripper folder, will substantially shorten make-ready times while enhancing production efficiency and flexibility.
Since the new press will print a large proportion of short-run jobs, fast job changes it has automation, such as plate changing.
For the same reason reliability took precedence over a high production speed.
The decision in favour of the 50,000 copies per hour (cph) Compacta 318 was further influenced by its economic efficiency, reduced paper consumption and low waste rate, added KBA.
The Compacta 318, like the 215, is equipped with a closed-loop system for in-line colour measurement and control.
Both presses are linked to pre-press via a CIP3 interface.
