German Newspapers To Master 5 Commanders

The second 48-page section, which will run in tandem with the first section to print six editions of the daily Bild-Zeitung, will come on stream in summer 2006 so that the title can be printed in full colour nationwide in time for the football World Cup.
The remaining sections are scheduled to go live at the end of 2006.
In early 2007 the Commander press line will take over production of LVDG's entire product range.

Le Soir, one of Belgium's leading newspapers, is to be printed along with a number of other publications on three six-wide KBA Commander presses.
Thank-You Party As 36-Tower Press Nears Shipment
The 'Kansas City Star', a title owned by US media group Knight Ridder, is about to take delivery of a KBA multi-unit Commander press line with a total of 36 four-high towers.
The press package includes 10 towers and 10 KBA Pastomat RC reel-stands with KBA Patras M manual reel feed.
KBA added that the stacked nine-unit satellites are engineered for image quality and straightforward four-colour printing via uniform web leads.
The printing couples will be connected to an automatic black and colour ink pumping unit, with automatic washing units for the blanket and impression cylinders.
There will be five 2:5:5 KF 5 jaw folders, 13 turner decks and five folder superstructures with two formers.
Provision has been made for cut-off register controls, skip slitters, a third former and section stitchers.
Ten EAE press consoles with production planning and Print presetting, a RIP interface and diagnostics PC support a high standard of automation.
Axel Springer in Hamburg and the Madsack publishing in Hanover each own a 50 per cent stake in LVDG.
Alongside the Bild-Zeitung and its Sunday equivalent, Bild am Sonntag, the Commander press will print two other dailies, Leipziger Volkszeitung and Dresdner Neueste Nachrichten, a weekly (Leipziger Rundschau), a Sunday title (Sachsen Sonntag), sundry frees and gazettes and advertising journals.
The Leipzig printing plant, which has a payroll of around 280 people, prints 800,000 dailies per night.
The total circulation of the Sunday and weekday editions is roughly 900,000 copies.
