Dutch Printer Extends KBA Production Capacity
Dutch printing house Janssen Pers Rotatiedruk, a longstanding KBA customer based in Gennep, has ordered an extension to the single-width Continent web press it installed in 1999.
Jacques Valembois, technical director of the Rossel media group, said: "With production costs soaring, it makes sense to rationalise the entire workflow, from reel arrival at the plant to copy departure from it.
Automating reel storage and preparation plays a major role in exploiting savings potential.
We scrutinised all the logistics systems currently on the market, including those at Pressehaus Stuttgart Druck and Mediaprint in Vienna and came to the conclusion that entrusting KBA with the installation would be the best solution." The customised logistics system for Rossel will be installed in the middle of this year and will simultaneously handle reels with a diameter of 1,500mm (59") and 1,270mm (50") and any width from 630mm (24.75") to 1,920mm (75.5").

Mail and Standard Set Flexo Standards Higher
The world's largest flexo newspaper production installation is growing even bigger.
When the reels arrive at the plant they will be unloaded and transferred to a conveyor belt by clamp trucks.
Stores administration and the materials flow system will receive advance notification of delivery via Papinet software.
The reels will have their width, diameter and Ifra barcode scanned in while they stand on the conveyor.
AGVs supplied by Rocla will accept the reels at the transfer station in goods reception and convey them to the store, which has a capacity of more than 900 reels.
At the same time their arrival will be logged in the stores management system linked to the production scheduling and control system for the Commander 6/2 press line.
Reels for a production run will be selected by computer according to their codes and transferred by three AGVs from the main store to one of two tilting stations in the reel preparation zone.
From there they will be conveyed automatically by a Patras trolley to a stripping station, stripped and the splice prepared.
Provision has been made for the later addition of KBA Easy Splice automatic splice preparation stations.
Onward transport to the transfer point will be a push-button operation.
Three laser-controlled AGVs will deliver the reels either to the daily store, which can hold 36 reels, or directly to the relevant reel-stands, where they will offload them on to Patras trolleys.
Reel positioning and loading will be automatic, as will be core disposal.
All storage and transport movements will also be monitored and controlled via ABB software embedded in the existing management system said KBA. Request a free brochure from KBA ...
