The KBA presses exhibited in hall 3 at China Print from May 11-15 in Beijing, will reflect current investment trends among Chinese sheetfed printers, said the German press manufacturer Alongside a Rapida 105 Universal four colour B1 (40") press in a typical configuration for the Chinese market, KBA will be demonstrating a small-format Genius 52 UV film and plastic printing press made by subsidiary KBA-Metronic and what KBA claimed to be the first large-format machine ever to be exhibited at a major Chinese fair - a Rapida 162 four colour for sheets measuring 1,120mm x 1,620mm (44" x 63.75")

Dutch Printer Extends KBA Production Capacity
Dutch printing house Janssen Pers Rotatiedruk, a longstanding KBA customer based in Gennep, has ordered an extension to the single-width Continent web press it installed in 1999.
The Rapida 162a at China Print will print world maps on paper and packaging on board and microflute.
It will feature an option for printing directly on corrugated up to 1.2mm (0.047") thick, a non-stop facility at the feeder, a multiple washing system for the plate, blanket and impressions cylinders, automatic plate changers, a non-stop roller facility in the infeed and various other automation modules said the company.
A KBA Logotronic Basic production management system will be demonstrated to show how it enables pre-press and press data to be used for pre-setting and production analysis, including statistical cost accounting, added the company.

KBA Readies New SLF Presses For Market
The biggest SLF offset press on the international market entered the final phase of production at the beginning of November 2003 with the successful conclusion of sheet-run trials at KBA's factory.
The Rapida 105 Universal for the Chinese market has a higher output, a modified console and is offered as four-colour to six-colour versions with optional coater and delivery extension.
Like the 162, the four-colour board-printing model to be exhibited will incorporate automatic plate changers and Logotronic Basic.
The B3 (20.5") Genius 52 UV exhibited at China Print and its conventional counterpart for oil-based inks are both waterless and keyless presses.
They are claimed to address two markets with good growth prospects in China - short-run colour and plastic printing (for smart cards and promotions, for instance).
KBA claimed that it is the undisputed market leader in large format presses within China and that following the first press delivery there in 2001, the volume of orders for such presses had grown steadily from year to year.
The company believes that growth it is not surprising on consideration of the country's huge population and the correspondingly long print runs involved.
Two years ago Shenzhen Huali in Shenzhen took delivery of the country's first 1,200mm x 1,620mm (47.25" x 63.75") Rapida 162a, which was an unusual format in China at that time.
Today, that press model and the Rapida 162 account for half of KBA's large format press sales, it added.
According to KBA, the market for classic four-colour printing is still far bigger in China than in Europe or even North America, and that is why the company's Rapida 105 Universal press is popular.
However, the company added that the sector has not stood still, and most of the B1 Rapida presses shipped to China now have more than four printing units plus optional finishing equipment.
In the rapidly expanding Chinese packaging market there is a brisk demand for five or more colours plus coater and UV capability for printing plastic or cigarette packs, said KBA.
Some printers that are able to import foreign presses are picking up on the trend in other parts of the world for more in-line finishing, automation and enhanced productivity, said KBA. Request a free brochure from KBA ...
