With an investment in a 16-page commercial web press from Koenig and Bauer AG (KBA), the General Organisation for Government Printing Offices (GOGPO) in Cairo (Egypt) has underlined its reputation as an industry pioneer in the region Following major successes in the sheetfed and newspaper sectors, the order is for KBA another important step forward in commercial web heatset and coldset offset in the North Africa and Middle East growth markets

The Compacta 215 for GOGPO will be equipped with Patras M manual reel handling, a KBA Pastostar RC reelstand, four printing units with a 700mm cylinder circumference specifically for book printing, hot-air drying, chill-roll stands, a superstructure with two turner bar pairs and a KF3 SC folder.

An additional delivery sheeter permits the production of high-quality printed products with heavier papers.

The press has a claimed web speed of up to 8.8 metres per second, with an output of up to 45,000 copies per hour (cph).

The history of the present Al-Amiria publishing house can be traced back to 1820.

Founded under the name Boulaq Printing Press, it formerly printed books and other publications for the military.

In 1956, the name was changed to the General Organisation for the Government Printing Offices and the company was assigned to the Ministry of Industry.

In 1973 a new 35,000 square metre facility was built in Imbaba, a suburb of the Egyptian capital, Cairo, and offers work for 3,700 people.

Over 37,000 tonnes of paper were consumed last year to output printed products including books, governmental forms, newspapers (El Wakea El Mesreya and others), magazines and catalogues.

Calendars, notepads, envelopes and packaging are similarly part of the broad product range produced at the site.

In 2001 one of the most modern pre-press departments in the region was installed and planning for the latest project began last year.

Completion is scheduled for mid-2006. Request a free brochure from KBA ...
