KBA's First 72pp Press Deal In Europe
Signed

With the signing of the contracts for the first 72-page press of KBA's Compacta 818 series in Europe, the German press manufacturer sealed the deal with Rotolito Lombarda of Italy.

With the signing of the contracts for the first 72-page press of KBA's Compacta 818 series in Europe, the German press manufacturer sealed the deal with a delegation from Rotolito Lombarda (Pioltello), one of the front-line commercial printers on the Italian market The company's president, Dr Paolo Bandecchi who lead the delegation, finalised the firm's decision for the new high-volume press

The automated two-around Compacta 818, featuring a 1,197mm cylinder circumference and a web width of 1,980mm and a claimed production speed of up to 42,500 copies per hour (cph) is equipped with the variable-format V5 gripper folder for both short-grain and long-grain production and is set to further enhance the company's flexibility and output capacity in commercial web offset.

Scheduled to come on stream in spring 2006, the press has been configured with Patras A paper logistics, a Pastomat RC reelstand, five printing units, a 15.5 metre heatset dryer section with integrated emissions filter, remoistening facilities, automatic blanket washing and console technology.

It is the first KBA press for the web division of Rotolito Lombarda.

To date, the company has been printing on presses from KBA's German and Japanese competitors but following installation of the Compacta 818, Rotolito Lombarda will possess a total of six large-format commercial presses, which are used for the high-volume production of catalogues, magazines, books and advertising.

Founded in 1976, Rotolito Lombarda employs a staff of 400 and returns an annual turnover of 145m Euros.

The company is able to point to continuous growth and has invested huge sums in pre-press, print and finishing equipment over recent years, said KBA.

The Italian company has three production sites in Italy, namely at its Pioltello head offices, which is a sheetfed offset and coldset operation, Cernusco (web offset) and Capriate San Gervasio (bookbinding).

The sheetfed offset division has already been a committed user of KBA's Rapida large-format presses for a number of years.

Three four-colour and five-colour Rapida 142 1,020mm x 1,420mm presses and three four-colour 1,200mm x 1,620mm Rapida 162 presses form the heart of the operation.

Those earlier positive experiences with the KBA sheetfed offset presses was a decisive factor in Rotolito Lombarda's decision to invest in the Compacta 818.

Dr Paolo Bandecchi said: "Our aim has always been - and still remains - to offer our national and international customers the best possible service on the basis of the most advanced press technology available.

We are in a position to handle jobs at a constantly high quality level, irrespective of the run length and even to the tightest delivery deadlines.

That flexibility and reliability has been the basis for our significant growth in the past.

With the new 72-page Compacta 818, we will be able to raise our self-imposed standards still further in the future.

This investment paves the way for yet another increase in performance and for renewed growth.

We are a dynamic and innovative company, which is well aware of its pioneering role." KBA believes that the sale of the first 72-page press to Rotolito Lombarda is a natural continuation of its success in the market for high-volume print in Italy, following in the tradition of 64-page and 48-page installations at Mondadori, Amilcare Pizzi, Mediagraf, Fratelli Spada, Grafica Editoriale and Coptip.

In the 16-page press field, KBA added that it has established itself as the market leader in Italy with the Compacta 215 and Compacta 217 series, with press deliveries to Pizzi, Mondadori, OPV, Litopat and the state printing office in Rome. Request a free brochure from KBA ...
