German press manufacturer KBA has reported valuable orders and strong interest from its presence at China Print.

German press manufacturer KBA has reported valuable orders and strong interest from its presence at China Print.

The Rapida 162 exhibited at China Print was delivered straight on after the fair to the Zhejiang Shengda Packaging Group, one of the largest packaging enterprises in China, with facilities in Suzhou, Shanghai, Taizhou and Ningbo.

Luk Ka in Shenzhen ordered a Rapida 162a (sheet format 120cm x 162cm) which has been earmarked for delivery in the summer.

Luk Ka is one of largest carton producers in China, and is already operating Rapida medium-format presses.

The large-format Rapida 162a will be handling the printing of packaging for toys.

The list of sales also reflected the international atmosphere, said the company.

Alongside the 13 medium-format and large-format presses (representing a total of 90 printing units) for Chinese customers, contracts were also signed on the stand for two presses to be delivered to printers in Thailand.

KBA presented three sheetfed offset presses in production at China Print - a Genius 52 in the UV version for film and plastics printing, a four-colour Rapida 105 universal for the medium format sector and a large-format Rapida 162 (sheet format 112cm x 162cm).

The medium-format press was able to demonstrate the production of posters on paper but also the printing of a G-flute corrugated packaging for beer glasses at claimed speeds of up to 16,000 sheets per hour (sph).

Besides the large-format KBA presses, the flexible medium-format Rapida 105 universal remains as popular as ever on the Chinese print market said the company.

The Chongqing Qianlong Printing Group in Chongqing, Guangdong Shanwei Leng Fung Education Printing in Shantou and Kunshan Lihua (Kunshan) all ordered further presses of that type.

The six-colour Rapida 105 universal with coating tower and extended delivery for the Chongqing Qianlong, which is to be installed in the autumn, will be producing cigarette packaging.

The five-colour Rapida 105 universal at Kunshan Lihua, by contrast, is to print gift packaging, cards, labels and a range of other products.

Leng Fung, with a new six-colour Rapida 105 universal with coating tower, finally, is similarly planning to expand in to the market for cigarette packaging.

Even though China Print is first and foremost an exhibition for the sheetfed offset sector, the KBA team also had discussions about new projects in the newspaper market, where the single-width KBA Comet is traditionally the focus of attention among printers in China.

Within the framework of the Gravure International Technical Seminar 2005, which was organised by the China Printing Association, KBA sales director Christoph Muller gave a presentation on the latest trends and technologies in publication rotogravure.

Jurgen Veil, head of sheetfed offset marketing at KBA in Radebeul, spoke about UV technology in sheetfed offset.

Both the UV technology and printing on plastic materials are significant aspects of the Chinese market, as can be seen in the growing numbers of presses configured with UV equipment packages and corona units, added KBA.
