The new KBA Niptronic bearing unit will make printers' lives easier and improve the quality attainable when switching between widely differing stock weights, according to KBA Developed jointly by KBA, hydraulics specialist Bosch Rexroth and bearing manufacturer Ina, the Niptronic bearing unit is seated in a sealed, oiltight housing and, for the first time in the history of offset printing, allows the printing pressure between the plate and the blanket cylinder, or between the two blanket cylinders in a four-high tower, to be set with absolute precision from the console, claimed the company

Dutch Printer Extends KBA Production Capacity
Dutch printing house Janssen Pers Rotatiedruk, a longstanding KBA customer based in Gennep, has ordered an extension to the single-width Continent web press it installed in 1999.
Niptronic is said to guarantee 100 per cent zero cylinder play with no multiring bearings or cams.
It also eliminates the need for maintenance-intensive bearer rings.
The unit comprises a proven conventional cylinder roller bearing mounted in play-free, pre-tensioned linear guides, which permit movement on just one plane.
The precise printing pressure is set to predefined reference values and the plate and blanket cylinders thrown on electro-hydraulically, after which the cylinder is locked.
Settings can be stored and adjusted to ensure that pressure is always correct irrespective of stock type or blanket wear.
That eliminates the need for a change of packing or time-consuming manual adjustments, which in practice are rarely carried out on a regular basis, with no loss of quality, claimed KBA.
Niptronic is suitable for heatset and coldset hybrid presses that print coated stock along with rough newsprint, for which the optimum printing pressure is three times as high.
By optimising the printing pressure, Niptronic not only prolongs the service life of bearings, plates and blankets but also reduces energy consumption and bearing damage caused by wrap-ups.
NipTronic is available on KBA's waterless Cortina press and the system will later be available for conventional wet offset presses provided, like the Cortina, they have oil-free printing units. Request a free brochure from KBA ...
