The Comet press for Mashhad has been adapted for enhanced earthquake stability and is to be installed in mid-2006.
It has a 500mm (19.75") cut-off and a claimed maximum output of 75,000 copies per hour (cph) in straight production.
Web width can be varied from 635mm to 870mm (25"-34.25"), with 700mm (27.5") the standard.
The press package includes two four-high towers with H units for 4/4 production, two KBA Pastoline reelstands with KBA Patras M reel handling system, a semi-commercial capability (thermal air dryer, chill-roller stand, silicone unit) a KF 3 jaw folder (2:3:3 cylinder ratio), an EAE control console with Inksetter system and a diagnostics PC.
With automatic ink pumping and colour and cut-off register controls, the press line promises ease of operation and a high print quality, said KBA.
A range of optional features, including length and cross perforators and a quarterfold facility, are geared to maximising production flexibility.
Following the sale of four Comet installations to the Turkish Zaman Newspapers group for its facilities in Adana, Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir, the worldwide popularity of the KBA Comet is spreading to the Middle East, said KBA.
Eight-page versions of the press are already printing newspapers in Europe, the USA, Central America, Africa, Asia and Australia.
Quds Newspaper is the newspaper printing branch of the Quds Cultural Institute, a division of the Astan Quds Razavi organisation, which is active not only in the media sector (books, newspapers and magazines) but also in farming, industry and culture.
