Schenkelberg Stiftung and Co, one of the leading printing companies in North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany) has ordered a double-width Colora newspaper press from Koenig and Bauer (KBA) The new press line is scheduled to come on stream in the autumn of 2006

The Colora installation will comprise three 4/4 towers, three KBA Pastostar RC reelstands with manual reel handling system - KBA Patras M, two KBA KF 3 jaw folders (2:3:3 cylinder ratio), three EAE control consoles with the Print PP job preparation and pre-setting system and a diagnostics PC.

Designed for the Berliner format, the press is claimed to achieve a maximum production output of 75,000 copies per hour (cph) in straight production.

It offers a cylinder circumference of 940mm and accepts reels up to a width of 1,260mm.

To ensure flexibility for product structure and in-line finishing, the press will incorporate five turner-bar groups with two insertion decks, two skip-slitters, a section stitcher and facilities for cross and length-wise perforation.

Schenkelberg executive director, Dieter Schenkelberg, said: "We were very convinced by the way in which Koenig and Bauer translated the extensive catalogue of requirements in our specification in to a tailored press configuration.

At the same time, the Colora offers us not only excellent print quality, but also very flexible production options." Schenkelberg (formerly Druckhaus Bonn) has been newspaper specialist for 30 years.

The product spectrum it handles ranges from daily newspapers in the Berliner format to novels.

Six million advertising journals, magazines, brochures, supplements, novels and puzzle books leave the print centre every week.

The inside sections of the magazine-style products are produced on newsprint webs in one to four colours, whilst the covers are printed in full colour by the neighbouring sheetfed off-set facility Druck Center Meckenheim (DCM).

Numerous advertising journals (Blickpunkt, Der Potsdamer, Der Preuben Spiegel and Schweriner Kurier) are published with a total circulation of one million copies per week for the Brandenburg and Meck-lenburg-West Pomerania federal states.

Schenkelberg also cooperates with numerous partners in the advertising and print sectors, offering its publishing customers and third parties additional services in pre-press, distribution and individual advertising marketing. Request a free brochure from KBA ...
