Mediagraf in Padua and Koenig and Bauer (KBA) are continuing as the Italian company has ordered a further KBA Compacta 618 48-page commercial web press.

The new 48-page Compacta 618 will start production at Mediagraf at the end of August.

Up to 45,000 copies of books, catalogues and journals will then leave the double-circumference web press every hour, boosting the company's output, said KBA.

Automatic reel feed, with a web inspection system, web-threading device, semi-automatic plate changers on the printing units and in-line ink measurement and control are features of the Compacta 618 for Mediagraf.

The Mediagraf Group is one of the leading providers of commercial print in Italy.

Together with Societa Grafica Romana in Rome, another group member, the group has sheetfed and commercial web offset printing.

In Padua alone, one million books, 80 million catalogues and 60 million journals are produced each year for international publishing houses and customers from trade and industry.

In addition, the Roman Catholic Church, with numerous religious publications in the book and journal sector, is one of the group's major customers.

From the fully digitalised pre-stage followed by printing through to further processing and shipping logistics, the company has created an automated workflow, which is said to guarantee customers maximum quality and efficiency in all stages of production.
