Hybrid Finishing Press Highlight At
Grafitalia

The appearance of KBA and its subsidiary KBA-Italia at the Grafitalia show in Milan provided an early foretaste of the imminent football World Cup in Germany.

The appearance of KBA and its subsidiary KBA-Italia at the Grafitalia show in Milan provided an early foretaste of the imminent football World Cup in Germany Visitors to KBA's stand were given the chance to take away useful, high-quality printed matter on a football theme and, with a little bit of luck, also grabbed a KBA leather football echoing the slogan of the show in the colours of the Italian national team

Meanwhile, appearing live were a hybrid print on a Rapida 105 press, conventional print on a Performa 74 and a lenticular image on a Genius 52 UV machine.

The Rapida 105 is said to provide in-line production with a range of coating variants and punches.

The main attraction at the KBA stand was the six-colour Rapida 105 with special gallery and equipment for hybrid finishing, now on a 450mm plinth.

The automated medium-format press was exhibited with a non-stop feeder with no-sidelay in-feed, fully-automatic plate changing, inking unit temperature control, non-stop delivery with ACS Air Cleaning System, video register, Densitronic S colour measurement and control and the complete KBA Varidry dryer package.

Also fiitted were KBA's Washtronic and a Logotronic production management system.

KBA said the press demonstrated its rapid change-over capability between a variety of coating variants - UV matt, matt-gloss hybrid effects with UV and oil-based varnish, high-gloss UV and spot varnish.

In a claimed first for a trade fair, inline punching of self-adhesive stickers in the coating unit was also undertaken.

The company added that quality and economy at a reasonable price weere demonstrated by the five-colour Performa 74 press on show in Italy for the first time.

Using silver as the fifth colour, the machine produced World Cup postcards on 200gsm cardboard and reproductions of World Cup themed paintings by the Austrian-German artist Horst Kordes on 150gsm photo printing paper that Horst Kordes himself signed on the stand.

With semi-automatic plate changing, remote register correction, automatic washing systems and the JDF-compatible Graficontrol console, the Performa 74 seen at the exhibition is claimed to privide high user convenience at an attractive price-performance ratio.

The UV version of the Genius 52 press in 36cm x 52cm sheet format, with a coating unit and extended delivery, also produced by KBA-Metronic AG and marketed through KBA-Italia, was another big draw at the exhibition, according to KBA.

The machine printed a variety of football and sports car themed motifs on PVC sheets with 220u and in the lenticular printing of postcards.

As well as printing on non-absorbent material, such as foil or plastic, the Genius 52UV also allows cardboard up to 0.8 mm thick or paper from 100gsm, including coating to be printed. Request a free brochure from KBA ...
