Imperial Shape Up With £2m Investment
Imperial Litho, the Bourne End greeting card and commercial colour printer, is responding to Far Eastern competition with a £2m investment plan.
Imperial Litho, the Bourne End greeting card and commercial colour printer, is responding to Far Eastern competition with a £2m investment plan that will further meet the demands of today's international market.
At the centre of the new investment is a second KBA Rapida 105 six-colour press with coater and perfecting, a new automatic Wohlenberg guillotine and a new embossing press.
In December 2002 Imperial Litho installed its first Rapida 105 six-colour, downsizing from its big KBA large format presses to better cope with shorter print runs and faster turnrounds.
The company has been so delighted with the 105's performance that it has ordered an identical machine, again offering both UV and conventional inking and perfecting after the first unit and fitted with a board printing package.
By December the two 105s will be printing side by side in the Imperial Litho pressroom.
The company's main market is high quality greeting cards, which comprises 80% of its £7m turnover.
In addition the firm prints Christmas crackers, cartons and gift wraps and an array of calendars and commercial print.
"I want to be able to respond to today's market with fast and flexible turnround," said Imperial Litho managing director, Harry Carter.
"The new KBA press and our other investments will make this possible and improve our chances of success in tough trading conditions.
As a company we have got to move forward.
If you stand still you are dead," he added.
Imperial Litho employs over 60 people and the company believes it has built an enviable reputation for award winning print based on traditional printing skills and values combined with the latest technology.
The Rapida 105 is one of KBA's successful Rapida range of sheet-fed offset presses, which have opened up new perspectives in commercial, book and packaging printing.
It holds environmental accreditation in all of the major European countries.
