In ordering the first 72-page commercial web press in the Czech Republic, Prague-based Bohemia Print is maintaining its corporate strategy of dynamic growth.

The company has now just invested in a 72-page Compacta 818 commercial web press from KBA, which will be installed in a new building at a printshop in Teplitz, north-west of Prague.

The automation on the Compacta 818 will also mean a considerable increase in productivity for Bohemia Print.

The C818 is supplied with a cylinder circumference of 1,240mm and a maximum web width of 1,980mm, which allow up to 42,500 72-page publications to be printed every hour.

The system comes with an automatic reel feed, a KBA Pastomat RC reel changer, four printing units with semi-automatic plate changers and ink doctor blade system, heavy-duty dryers, cooling roller housing, superstructure and P5 pin folder.

An in-line colour measuring and control system and a monitoring system for the moving paper web will ensure a high degree of process stability.

After three Compacta 215s and one Compacta 618, the C818 for Bohemia Print is the fifth KBA commercial web press to be installed in the Czech Republic within recent years.

KBA believes its success in the Czech market is partly the result of the local support provided by KBA agent Ing Petr Kloc spol.

Jiri Cernicky, the managing director and chief executive officer of Bohemia Print, commented: "We are very satisfied with how the project has gone so far.

We are sure that KBA and Kloc are the right business partners for us.

I am pleased to report that at the moment our order book is so full that we have had to outsource a lot of jobs.

That's why we need new economically viable printing capacity." Since Bohemia Print was founded in 1997, the company has become one of the leading names in the Czech printing industry, with a workforce of 150 people and a range of services.

Print jobs are dominated by high-end magazines, catalogues and advertising brochures.

Circulation of such jobs is anywhere between 500,000 and eight million copies.

Some 70 per cent of production is for customers in the Czech Republic, with 30 per cent being exported, with Poland one of the key sales markets.

The printing press pool comprises a 16-page and a 48-page commercial web press.
