Larger Format Presses Strengthen KBA In
China

Shanghai was the venue not only of a printing industry trade fair, All in Print China 2006, but also of a KBA symposium that drew 250 people the eastern and northern reaches of China.

Shanghai was the venue not only of a printing industry trade fair, All in Print China 2006, but also of a KBA symposium that drew 250 people the eastern and northern reaches of China The highlight of the event was a demonstration of a large-format Rapida 142 press at Shanghai Pudong Jinfeng's factory

The 15,500 sheets per hour (sph) Rapida 142 five-colour, which was shipped to this prominent Shanghai packaging and display printer at the end of January, is the first new-generation large-format Rapida in the city and continues KBA's incursion in to the large-format press market in China, said the company.

There followed a string of orders for medium-format and large-format Rapida presses from printers in the east and north of China and even in central Mongolia.

Fifty installations over the past three years, amongst them seven 1,200mm x 1,620mm (63.75") Rapida 162a press lines in the south and east of the country, have pushed KBA's share of new sales in China's large-format market to over 50 per cent, added the company.

KBA also believes that it is the only press manufacturer to comply with the Chinese government's criterion that imported large-format presses must have an output of more than 15,000 sph.

At the beginning of this year KBA launched a series of technological updates on topics such as in-line coating and brand protection to acquaint printers in Asia with emerging market trends and the advances with which the medium-format and large-format Rapidas address them.

The opening event in Singapore was followed by a second in Shanghai and a third in Shenzhen.

The main speakers at the latest symposium in Shanghai were Walter Zehner and Lianbiao Wang of KBA China and Jurgen Veil from KBA Radebeul (Germany).

The print samples on board and plastic displayed by Jurgen Veil and Lianbiao Wang impressed participants who also saw a live production run on the new Rapida 142-5 at Shanghai Jinfeng.

Five coachloads of visitors were taken to the plant, where the press printed a world map on 250gsm (14pt) board at the Rapida's maximum production speed of 15,000sph.

Shanghai Jinfeng, which was established 16 years ago and now employs a staff of around 170, is one of the top 10 packaging printers in Shanghai.

The company's Zhao Shumin, who had previously operated with sheetfed presses from another German manufacturer, is satisfied that he made the right decision in switching to KBA and the Rapida 142.

He said: "The production figures for the first few months show that we have achieved a substantial improvement in quality and output.

The Rapida 142, with its fast make-readies and high output, is ideally suited to our needs and outperforms all our previous presses.

It fulfils even the most rigorous quality criteria." And he explained: "Over the past few years we have received a number of quality commendations from the chamber of industry and commerce.

With the new KBA press this is sure to become an even more frequent occurrence.

Market pressures and customer demands are steadily mounting in the packaging sector. Request a free brochure from KBA ...

We are well equipped to meet this challenge.".
