An investment set to maintain and extend the company's competitive edge is how Surrey printer, Aldridge Print Group has described its purchase of a new KBA Rapida 105 ten-unit sheetfed press.
Group production subsidiary Model Primepac in Au (St Gallen canton) placed an order for a 15-unit press line with the capacity to accommodate a broad range of coating options.
The configuration comprises a coater, two dryers and eight printing units followed by a further coater, two dryers, a final coater and a double-length extended delivery.
Stretching 30 metres (just under 100 feet), it is the longest custom-configured straightline Rapida 105 installation in Switzerland.
Model Primepac is making the most of the press's coating prowess on both paper and board to tap in to new markets and applications.
Since the Rapida was put in to operation a few weeks ago it has enabled the company to add an array of new products to its portfolio and it is aiming to exploit them to grow market share.
According to KBA, what made the Rapida 105 the press of choice for the company was not just its engineering quality and automation but also features that rival presses are unable to offer.
In view of the complexity and sheer length of the press, key criteria in deciding the outcome in favour of KBA were the bearing technology, the drives and the stable and its rigid frames.
In addition, during press evaluation at the pre-investment planning stage, Model's management team was impressed by KBA's technological competence and its expertise in designing press lines for highly specialised applications, added the company.
The Model group's controlling company, Model Holding, operates 13 production plants and is a supplier of corrugated and cardboard packaging.
The group also owns 10 packaging 'shops' and five sales subsidiaries.
Last year the 2,700 employees on the group's payroll generated consolidated sales worth a total of 545 million Swiss francs (US$44m).
Model Holding is based in Weinfelden. Request a free brochure from KBA ...
