North Wales Newspapers managing director, Kevin McNulty, said: "Regional newspapers have their roots in local communities enabling us to cover news and provide advertiser information to a level no other medium can offer.

Our new press facility will not only allow us to deliver this objective but also offer full colour on every page to readers and advertisers.

For contract print customers this will be a terrific facility within minutes of the North West motorway hub." He continued: "The investment by shareholders of North Wales Newspapers confirms their confidence in publishing and printing in Wales and the North West UK, their continued commitment to the local communities they serve and to their staff.

It will help to ensure the company remains in a market leading position providing a high level of personal service to customers with a sustainable, diverse and exciting future." The choice of equipment by NWN was made after an extensive study in the UK and across Europe.

The final decision, it said, was based on the quality of equipment, speed of production and short lead times for build and commissioning.

A key factor was that KBA was able to demonstrate a solid partnership approach to the overall project.

KBA UK managing director, Christian Knapp, said: "We are delighted that two family controlled companies can share in this major development in North Wales.

The order illustrates KBA's continuing strength in regional newspapers and we wish the new plant every success." North Wales Newspapers is a company fast approaching its 200th anniversary and has been in the hands of the Thomas family for four generations.

It publishes daily, weekly and monthly titles with almost one million readers a week, including the three-edition daily Evening Leader circulating in Wrexham, Flintshire and Chester.
