Cantelli Rotoweb is driving growth with a new KBA Compacta 618 press.

Cantelli Rotoweb is driving growth with a new KBA Compacta 618 press.

The 42,500 copies per hour (cph) 48-page commercial web offset press, which rolled in to action in May at Cantelli's headquarters in Castel Maggiore, joined two 16-page and two 32-page presses.

Vittorio Cantelli, president of Cantelli Holding and head of Cantelli Rotoweb, its web division, is exploiting the boost in printing fire-power to expand the output of in-house and contract publications, supermarket brochures and high-pagination catalogues with tight delivery deadlines.

Specifications for the KBA Compacta 618 include a Pastomat RC reelstand with automatic reel feed via KBA Patras A, semi-automatic plate changing on the four printing units, a thermal air dryer with integrated exhaust-air purification and heat recovery, as well as an automatically convertible P5 pin folder with superstructure and a gluing device at the former.

The software specified - Logotronic Professional production management and Grafikontrol Densiweb colour measurement and control - illustrates the company's focus on quality and efficiency, said KBA.

Compensating stackers and palletising robots are also embedded in the automated workflow.

After three months of production Vittorio Cantelli is delighted with the performance of the KBA Compacta 618.

He said: "Today's market demands fast, highly automated equipment and installations at Mondadori, Grafica Editoriale, Coptip, Mediagraf and Rotolito Lombarda prove that commercial presses from KBA enjoy an outstanding reputation in Italy.

We are now planning to put our new 48-page press in to triple-shift operation." When Vittorio Cantelli placed the order in last September, the Italian family enterprise had just celebrated 70 years of dynamic growth.

Founded in San Giorgio di Piano as Stabilimento Tipografico Editoriale Marino Cantelli by Vittorio Cantelli's father, the company initially printed work for public authorities and later for private businesses and publishing houses.

In the course of its 71-year history the printing plant has evolved in to an all-in service provider with four business divisions - Cantelli Rotoweb (the original printing operation), Cantelli Editore (publishing), Tipitalia (digital print) and Trends and Words (advertising and marketing).

Cantelli Rotoweb's customer base has expanded beyond Italy to include prominent European publishing houses.

Its sheetfed and web presses produce magazine titles dedicated to sport, leisure and motoring, amongst them Autocaravan, Hurra Juventus, Inter, Superbasket, American Superbasket, BTM Giganti del Basket, Il Mondo del Ciclismo, Legend Bike, Tutto Montanbike, Windsurf Italia, Kite Board, Free Sport and Mese di Caccia, a hunting magazine.

It also prints in-flight magazines for Meridiana and Air Dolomiti.
