Continent Press

Dar Al Sharq Printing, Publishing and Distribution in Doha (Qatar), a long-standing KBA customer, has again chosen Koenig and Bauer to supply its new web press.

Dar Al Sharq Printing, Publishing and Distribution in Doha (Qatar), a long-standing KBA customer, has again chosen Koenig and Bauer to supply its new web press The company has opted for a single-width KBA Continent machine

At present Dar Al Sharq runs a 1988-vintage Albert 200.

Dar Al Sharq general manager, Abdul Latif A Al-Mahmoud, said: "The high quality of the print combined with the high net production output and flexibility of the KBA Continent in the production of newspapers and semi-commercials were what convinced us when we went round several different reference installations.

The support provided by KBA and its agent, Giffin Graphics from Abu Dhabi, in the configuration of the customised system for our production requirements was simply first class." The Continent for Dar Al Sharq will have 10 printing towers, 16 KBA Pastoline reelstands, two of KBA's new KF 3B folders and three thermal air dryers.

It is scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2007.

Cylinder circumference will be 578mm (22.75") and web width variable, but with 700mm (27.5") as the standard.

The press will have a maximum rated output of 50,000 broadsheet copies per hour, either as 64 pages with 32 in full colour, or 40 pages all in full colour.

The configuration permits a mixture of heatset, full-colour and mono coldset pages that is typical for the Middle East.

As is customary in the region, the three heatset webs are intended for the title page (which is printed on coated paper), centre spreads and other selected pages.

Six insertion decks with re-inverting rollers, two folder superstructures with two formers, a length and cross perforator and quarterfold facility support a variety of product designs.

The press is controlled from four control consoles and equipped with EAE's Print PP job preparation and pre-setting system, plus a diagnostics PC.

The Continent's automation includes ink pumping, blanket washing and colour and cut-off register.

Provision has been made for the later addition of four towers and various other features. Request a free brochure from KBA ...
