KBA will be showing multi-colour printing on films and paper in A3 format with its Genius 52 UV press at the Graphispag exhibition.

KBA-Metronic AG will demonstrate the Genius 52 UV on the stand of its agent Tecaprint Iberica in hall 2, on stand B 270.

The Graphispag show will take place in Barcelona (Spain) and will open its doors from February 19 - 25.

KBA will be represented on the stands of its Spanish sheetfed offset and reel distributors KBA-Ilasa Espana (stand C 351) and KBA-Lauvic Espana (stand D 430) in hall 3 of Fira de Barcelona Monjuic 2.

Two medium-format presses from the 18,000 sheets per hour (sph) generation of the Rapida 105 press will be printing on the stand of KBA-Ilasa Espana.

There will be an eight-colour Rapida 105 for 4 over 4 printing with UV features, fully automatic plate changes, ink-temperature control, ACS (air cleaning system) and other automation components.

In addition there will also be a six-colour press from the same series with a coating tower and delivery extension and an equipment package for hybrid in-line finishing will produce high-quality print products with matt and gloss effects.

Apart from hybrid inks, UV metallic inks will also be used.

With claimed low waste volumes, the Genius 52UV small-format press produces printed products in the quality associated with the waterless offset process and confirms the pioneering role of KBA in anilox keyless inking technology, claimed the company.

KBA added that it has already successfully been using the anilox keyless inking units, which have also been distributed by another manufacturer in the A3 format for 10 years in the 74 Karat digital offset press, in the Rapida 74 G (G meaning Gravuflow) half-size press since Drupa 2000.

That technology has also been seen in KBA's Cortina for newspaper printing.

Due to the process and operational advantages the inking units offer, all of the those presses use the waterless offset process.

The same is true of the systems produced by KBA-Metronic for printing electronic data storage media, such as CDs and DVDs.

KBA said that Spain is one of its top five markets in the world for sheetfed offset printing equipment.

During the last few years, nearly 50 per cent of exports of sheetfed offset presses from Germany to Spain came from KBA, claimed the company.

With more than 100 large-format Rapida presses in production, KBA claimed it has a share of roughly 80 per cent of new installations in this market segment.

Standard configurations (five-colour, or six-colour presses with coating unit) in particular are used across all size categories in Spain.

Some installations included a six-colour Rapida 142 with coating tower at SCA Packaging Bertako near Pamplona and a five-colour Rapida 162a at Grafos in Barcelona, where there are four Rapida-Jumbos working.

Casa de la Moneda in Madrid bought a Rapida 105 with a rain-bow printing device and waterless offset printing capability.

However, longer presses, such as a nine-unit Rapida 105 with coating unit and perfecting for 4 over 5 printing, were also installed last year.

KBA said that new technologies for economical production of commercial work, semi-commercial work and newspapers are at the heart of its reel agent KBA-Lauvic Espana's appearance at the show.

KBA has also had a strong position in the newspaper and commercial printing market in Spain for a number of years.

Over the past few months, for example, a single-width Comet press has been ordered by newspaper publishers Diario de Burgos (Burgos), Calprint (Medina del Campo), Hora Nova (Palma de Mallorca), Rotimpres (Aiguaviva) and Artes Graficas de Ibiza (Ibiza).

The Spanish publisher El Pais has commissioned an expansion of its existing three KBA Commander web presses in Madrid and Barcelona.

In addition, the free newspapers, such as the Metro are booming in all of the major cities on the Iberian Peninsula.

KBA said it had a market share last year of approximately 33 per cent of new investments in the Spanish commercial web offset printing market.

Installations or orders came from Monprint (Compacta 418 and Compacta 215) and Industrias Rotographik (Compacta 418).

A renowned international printing company also ordered a 72-page Compacta 818, said the company.
