KBA Press Helps Spanish Printer Maintain
Quality

Following the commissioning of another KBA Rapida 162a press Graficas Instar has expanded its press fleet at L'Hospitalet de Llobregat near Barcelona (Spain).

Following the commissioning of another KBA Rapida 162a press in the 1,200mm x 1,620mm format, book printer Graficas Instar has expanded its press fleet at L'Hospitalet de Llobregat near Barcelona (Spain) That takes its press stable to three presses of the same type, with two presses from KBA's large-format series, which were bought in 1998 and 2001

The automatic plate change on the new large-format Rapida 162a press only takes four minutes, claimed KBA.

Quality is ensured with the Densitronic S ink measuring and regulating system.

With the help of KBA and its Spanish agency, KBA-Ilasa, the new Rapida 162a was commissioned in five weeks.

Combined with the computer-to-plate system, also newly installed, the ideal conditions are in place for further growth and maintaining a strong competitive position, added the company.

Founded in 1962, Graficas Instar has been printing on sheetfed presses from Radebeul since 1982.

After using a Planeta Varimat and a Super Variant for many years, the company was the first user in Catalonia and the second in Spain to change to the large-format generation of presses from KBA.

The four-colour press now in operation is intended to further strengthen Graficas Instar's market position.

The printing centre in Pablo Iglesias is the production operation of the Editorial Vicens Vives publishing group, which is the market leader in schoolbooks on the Iberian Peninsula.

The books for all year groups, levels of education and subject areas, also have a high reputation in Latin American countries, as well as in Spain.

Under the Vicens Vives International label, the group has a worldwide presence with its own publishing houses and numerous sales organisations.

The range of products and services is being expanded on a continuing basis.

Multicultural educational projects are also boosting the international growth trend.

There are good reasons for the long-standing cooperation with KBA in Radebeul (Germany).

That is one reason cited by production manager Santiago Rubio, who said: "KBA has always been the trend setter for reliable designs with superior performance, flexibility and efficiency in large-format sheetfed offset printing.

The increases in productivity we have achieved over the years have not come from nowhere.

Even at the start of the cooperation, KBA was the only provider that was those all-important two centimetres ahead of the competition with the 162 format and was best able to meet our profile of requirements." He added: "The aim of our management has always been to find the most able partner and to keep our press fleet in line with the state of the art at all times with up-to-the-minute new developments.

Our customers expect the highest level of quality and demand ever better performances in terms of delivery times." Graficas Instar, with around 40 employees, produces an extensive range of print products.

At present, approximately 500,000 books with between 100 and 500 pages leave the printshop each week.

Apart from the books, which comprise around 90 per cent of production, the three large-format Rapidas also print envelopes and catalogues.

Santiago Rubio commented: "Even the progression from the Varimat and Super Variant presses to the first Rapida 162a generation was huge.

With the latest generation of large-format presses, KBA has successfully implemented further improvements to increase productivity and shorten and optimise job processing. Request a free brochure from KBA ...

These not only include the increase in production printing rate to up to 13,000 sheets per hour, but also a number of items of equipment that improve the printing substrates logistics, the make-ready times, the productivity of the press, quality control and ease of operation." He added: "The non-stop systems on the feeder and delivery, the web travel optimised for light grammages and the simultaneous washing of rubber blanket and rollers provide significant production advantages.".
