Comet Press Success With Iranian
Newspapers

The delivery to Quds Newspaper in Mashhad (Iran) of a single-width KBA Comet press for printing semi-commercials and newspapers has been followed by an order from another Iranian media enterprise.

The delivery to Quds Newspaper in Mashhad (Iran) of a single-width KBA Comet press with heatset capability for printing semi-commercials as well as newspapers has been followed by an order from another Iranian media enterprise This time, Karapayam Publishing and Printing in Teheran, has ordered the same press type from KBA

Karapayam, which prints newspapers and periodicals, is targeting an increase in production capacity and colour content with the eight-page Comet, with the press's print quality and ease of handling making it one of KBA's most popular models.

Delivery is scheduled for early 2007.

The floor-mounted Comet for Karapayam will be configured with six KBA Pastoline reelstands, KBA Patras M reel handling, three towers for full colour blanket-to-blanket on one web or two colours on two webs, and two KF 3 jaw folders with a 2:3:3 cylinder ratio.

The formers in the two folder superstructures will be inclined from right to left so that the pin holes are underneath - better suited for copies that are read from back to front.

The Comet will have a 500mm (19.75-inch) cut-off and a maximum output of 75,000 copies per hour in straight production.

The standard web width will be 700mm (27.5") though the press will be able to handle a variety of widths from 635 to 870mm (25" - 34.25").

Press specs include automatic ink pumping and provision has been made for the addition at a later date of diverse extras, such as a thermal air dryer, a gluing device, length and cross perforators, a section stitcher and quarterfold, for instance, for printing semi-commercials.

The Comet press line will be controlled and monitored from two EAE consoles complete with diagnostics PC.

Iraj Pakroo, managing director of Karapayam Publishing and Printing, said: "We chose the KBA Comet after an intensive survey comparing the technology of several press suppliers.

The design and layout of the Comet is very flexible for future extensions.

KBA has a very good reputation in Iran with press installations at Iran Chap, Kayhan, Quds Newspapers and Resalat." He added: "Finally, we saw the Comet in Europe in full production, which exceeded our expectations.

We are happy to have KBA as our new partner for this important project, which is the biggest investment in our company to date." Karapayam prints tabloid inserts (such as classified advertisements, for example) with up to 152 pages for Hamshahri Newspaper, the biggest full-colour newspaper in Iran.
