Ink misting and splashing are an irritating problem on today's high-speed rotary commercial web presses, where web speeds can be in the region of 15 metres per second That is according to KBA, which said that given the increasing use of automated components for plate changing and the reduced access to printing units that the problem entails, the resulting cleaning work - which is never popular amongst operators - demands time and expense in practice

Cambridge Newspapers Expands With KBA Performance
Cambridge Newspapers is planning to expand its newspaper contract printing with a pressroom investment in back to back colour facilities.
It was with that in mind that KBA and Felix Bottcher got together to develop an ink transfer roller - the Sparylo - with a surface structure that is claimed to assist emptying of the film roller.
KBA said that enables the printer to send less ink overall to the film roller, reducing ink splashes.
The new development was trialled and refined in practical tests on KBA's Compacta web presses and it is already supplied as standard on new double-circumference Compacta presses and it is increasingly also installed on single-width Compactas.
Both companies have applied for patents for the ink transfer roller.
The new Spraylo roller is available to all users of KBA Compacta web offset presses and can also be retrofitted on pre-owned systems at any time.
It can be obtained from KBA's service department or through the Felix Bottcher sales team. Request a free brochure from KBA ...
