6-Colour Press Runs Hybrid Inks And UV Coating

A KBA product story

An Italian printer's first KBA offset press in its 120-year history six-colour is successfully printing archiving systems.

KBA said that the quantities of articles produced by Liantonio Editrice, the very broad range of materials used and the frequent job changes were initially considered a major challenge for the new Rapida 105 press.

However, KBA's Densitronic S quality management system, has enabled the press to meet those issues.

With its six colours plus coating, hybrid accessories, double-length delivery extension and CX board-handling equipment package, the Rapida 105 has added punch to the existing press line-up of four small and medium-format presses from German and Japanese manufacturers at Liantonio Editrice.

The Rapida's production speed, claimed fast job-change make-readies, quality control and the range of finishing effects offered by the combination of hybrid inks and UV coating are important factors, added KBA.

The Rapida 105 with coater and hybrid accessory package went in to production with Liantonio Editricein the South Italian port city Bari just a few months ago.

The press forms a high-performance production line for the printing of archiving systems for affiliated company Fabius Cartotecnica.

Fabius is said to be enjoying growth in Italy thanks to the diversity and quality of its product range.

The popularity and the practical utility value of its filing systems, which are supplied in varied forms, colours and formats, have made Fabius the Italian market leader in this segment, it is claimed.

Liantonio Editrice's managing director, Dr Michele Liantonio, said: "The KBA press opens up new possibilities for productivity, quality and economic efficiency and will permit us to grow further.

The high-quality printing, coating and finishing on both paper and board was the most important criterion.

Our market research showed that, with the Rapida 105, KBA offers the most complete press, and at the same time the press with the highest performance capabilities on the medium-format market." He added: "The good support from the sales organisations in Germany and Italy also contributed to our gaining KBA as a new partner for our print operations." And Liantonio explained: "The press is a high-tech means of production, whose potential needs to be understood and exploited.

As this was our first six-colour press with coating and hybrid inks, our printers naturally required some introductory training.

The intensive efforts of the KBA instructors, however, have played a significant role in us already being able to make use of most of the possibilities." Liantonio Editrice's business manager, Dr Maria Antonietta Liantonio, is similarly convinced by the new investment and she commented: "By choosing a full set of equipment features, we had to come up with quite a tidy sum, but that is immediately placed in perspective by the versatility and value-creation options offered by the press.

We are certain that the new press will very soon pay itself off and that it will help us to meet our ambitious targets.".
