KBA Newspaper Presses Capture Market's Imagination

A KBA product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Jul 16, 2007

The first installation of KBA's new Commander CT press has been in production at the Main-Post media group in Wurzburg (Germany) for 18 months.

With a four-high tower four metres in height, the Commander CT will be joined by a second tower that has been ordered by Main-Post for installation next year.

The plan is to stack the new tower on top of the existing one to add to the company's colour capabilities without needing to extend the buildings and without restricting the continuing production.

The new Commander CT is to be presented to the trade public in more detail during an open house at Main-Post in Wurzburg on September 27 and 28.

KBA said that such a space-saving installation, with an eight-high tower in an existing newspaper press hall, can only be realised with its Commander CT and Cortina compact presses.

A further contract has also just been finalised with the Spanish newspaper house Heraldo de Aragon in Zaragoza, which has ordered a Commander CT with fully automatic plate changing for fast job change-overs.

The German press manufacturer commented that its Competence platform that embraces its automated four-high tower presses - Commander CT for wet offset production and the Cortina press for waterless production - have caught the imagination of the newspaper industry and the systems are gaining a greater following in the market.

KBA has received orders for 11 waterless Cortina press lines, comprising a total of 51 four-high towers (39 double-width and 12 triple-width).

And the sister Commander CT press , which prints in conventional wet offset with a new inking unit (with three inkers), is already notching up its first successes before its official market launch.
