10-Colour Press's Direct Drive Plate
Cylinder

Eighty guests viewed a 10-colour KBA Rapida 105 press running with the company's plate cylinder direct drive technology Drivetronic SPC at KB-Offset Kroiss and Bichler.

The centrepiece in the Regau (Austria) printshop is the Rapida 105, which was installed in December 2006 in a five-back-five perfector configuration with SIS infeed, automatic ink supplies, Densitronic S colour measurement and control system and the Drivetronic SPC for simultaneous plate changing The press has already clocked up 18 million impressions

With a claimed folding capacity for up to 12 folds, gang-stitchers with six to eight stations, trimming, binding and gluing machines, facilities for personalisation and addressing and automatic packing lines, the finishing department at KB-Offset is also geared to high-capacity production.

However, the increase in print volume thanks to the Rapida 105's output printed in five colours on both sides of the sheet after a single pass, has still resulted in occasional finishing bottlenecks.

Most of the remaining 30 printing units are divided amongst four-colour and five-colour presses, some also with coating facilities.

KB-Offset produces literature for tourism and advertising materials for retailers, industry, commerce and the financial sector.

The list of references contains not only international brand labels, but also the media industry, energy suppliers and advertising agencies from across Austria.

During the practical presentation of Drivetronic, the guests from Austria, South Germany and Poland were able to witness four job change-overs under production conditions in less than 30 minutes, said KBA and at the same time gained an insight in to KB-Offset.

KB-Offset is still a relatively young company and was originally founded in neighbouring Vocklabruck as a family-run business with two employees in 1960.

The print operations were moved to new premises in Regau in 1995 and two expansions have since brought the available production space up to 7,500 square metres.

In the meantime, 40 printing units have been installed, mainly in medium format and KB-Offset now counts 100 employees, the vast majority of whom work directly in customer relations and project handling. Request a free brochure from KBA ...
