Dutch Printer Extends KBA Production Capacity
Dutch printing house Janssen Pers Rotatiedruk, a longstanding KBA customer based in Gennep, has ordered an extension to the single-width Continent web press it installed in 1999.
Alongside an F3 folder with a 2x8-page module the Compacta 215 has a sheeter and a UV coating unit and will mainly be used to print covers on stock weights of 200gsm (74lbs) or above.
A second Compacta 408 press for Grafix Printing in Dessel has been ordered from KBA.
The 32-page short-grain Compacta 408 that will be installed will be the second of this type and the seventh KBA commercial web press at the Dessel production plant, bringing the total number of presses to eight.
The contract is part of an investment package that also includes new litho presses and is aimed at enhancing flexibility and turn-around at the promotional literature printer.
At the same time T'Hooft in Aalter is to expand its operation with a Compacta 818 press.
The 64-page press is its eighth KBA web press at the company and it will join a line-up of 8-page, 16-page and 40-page machines.
Its claimed ability to print long runs of high-pagination copies will increase production capacity.
The variable-format V5 gripper folder on the double-circumference machine is said to be able to handle long-grain and short-grain copies for greater flexibility.
KBA added that the folder is more compact than systems from other manufacturers.
Since the 40-page press is also configured with a V5, T'Hooft is already familiar with its performance.
Print runs at Drukkerij T'Hooft range from 10,000 to five million copies on almost every type of commercial stock.
KBA said that since the turn of the millennium, Belgian printers have signed for a total of 34 new commercial presses, around 36 per cent of them are large-format 48-page to 72-page machines and 38 per cent are 16-page presses.
Out of those total market sales, the company added that it is well represented, with 30 per cent of the commercial press market.
