Dutch Printer Extends KBA Production Capacity
Dutch printing house Janssen Pers Rotatiedruk, a longstanding KBA customer based in Gennep, has ordered an extension to the single-width Continent web press it installed in 1999.
The contract specifies three identical Rapida 105 B1 (41-inch) five-colour presses scheduled for delivery in May, July and September.
Each press will have a coater, double extended delivery, shaftless feeder, no-sidelay SIS infeed, automatic plate changing, Technotrans' Inkline ink pumping and board and UV and hybrid printing capabilities.
The Rapidas will replace four presses from other German manufacturers.
KBA said it won the contract following a comparison of various press types from Germany and the Far East, as well as fact-finding missions to German, Spanish and US users.
According to the company, Grupo Nacion chose Rapida 105s to address a mounting demand for in-line-coated UV and hybrid printed products.
Grupo Nacion added that it aims to expand its product portfolio with coated magazines and commercial products.
The CX board package will also allow it to address a growing demand for heavier stock.
All the presses will have Technotrans cooling systems to support low-alcohol printing and that reflects Costa Rica's environmental regulations, which have made low-emission printing an important issue.
To safeguard the presses' performance KBA is providing a service package that will embrace staff training, preventive maintenance and the supply of spare parts.
Along with the three sheetfed presses from KBA in Radebeul (Germany), Grupo Nacion has ordered from KBA's Wurzburg facility a two-tower extension to its current Comet press line, which will raise the total number of towers to 10.
That development will allow Grupo Nacion to increase the page counts of the four daily titles printed on the press.
Its two most recent launches - La Teja, a tabloid, and La vuelta en U, a university newspaper - are growing , along with its well-established titles, La Nacion and El Dia.
The heatset capability is used during the day to print a range of contract titles, amongst them magazines, Avon catalogues and flyers.
