Trinidad Guardian buys Comet press for new plant

A KBA product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Nov 10, 2008

The Trinidad Guardian newspaper has bought a Comet press from KBA to help its transition to a tabloid format.

The single-width, double-circumference Comet press was installed in a new 4,000 square metre (43,000 square feet) printing plant, a USD10m investment that also included a mailroom and bindery.

The floor-mounted KBA Comet has a maximum output of 75,000 96pp tabloid copies per hour (48 full-colour pages).

It is configured with six Megtec AR 70A reelstands, two four-high towers, two H-type printing units and a KF 3 folder with length/cross perforation and a quarter-fold capability.

The web width can be varied from 635 to 1,000mm (25 to 39.5in), enabling it to print a range of supplements, magazines and other products in different formats.

The press runs in three shifts, 18 to 20 hours per day.
