Rapida 105 streamlines production

A KBA product story

Cambridgeshire commercial printer, Burlington Press, has upgraded its pressroom with the introduction of a second B1 KBA Rapida 105 press.

The press was specified with six colour units, inline coating and heavy stock handling options to complement a 10-colour Rapida 105 long perfector installed at the beginning of 2007.

Director Andrew Tooke explains: 'The Rapida was able to deliver the consistency of quality to allow us to achieve ISO 12647-2 colour accreditation easily.

'Apart from instances where we need the quality assurance, there are quite a few jobs with five colours and sealing or six colours that our 5-colour Speedmaster couldn't handle, or work on covers or backing boards that need to be turned round very quickly.

Much of the work planned through the Rapida 105 10-colour perfector is in the form of section work for magazines, brochures, books and R and A, typically printing four-back-four with sealing.

The decision to broaden the spec with a second press has already paid dividends, with contracts for greetings cards, post cards and packaging for airline catering and branded TV food products being added to the company's staple diet of covers and general commercial print.
