Three new materials add to the range of linerless, heatseal adhesive coated vinyl over-laminating films, now available from Lamount The company operates a UK e-commerce website supplying laminating and mounting materials to the sign and digital print markets

The vinyl films are flexible and conformable materials that are available in a number of different surface finishes and effects.

The latest combination of films with Superstick hybrid adhesive to produce vinyl heatseal over-laminating films opens up new opportunities for the print finisher, according to Lamount.

Superstick adhesive has the appearance of a low-melt thermal adhesive, similar to an encapsulation film adhesive, but reacts differently when it is heated.

For optimum results Superstick needs to 'see' 90 degrees C (190 degrees F) at which point it changes to a much more mobile state, similar to a pressure sensitive adhesive, enabling it to penetrate and 'wet-out', giving deep down anchorage within the print and media.

However, once the adhesive returns to normal temperatures it solidifies creating a very stable, strong permanent bond, said Lamount.

It has been found that Superstick adhesive is good at bonding to difficult low surface energy materials, printed media with high toner levels, inks which have not been fully dried, and where fuser oil has been used to speed the drying process.

In comparison with pressure sensitive and conventional heatseal laminating films, and their integral release liners, the liner-free products are operator friendly, being easier and quicker for 'webbing-up', and with today's environmental requirements, there is no release paper waste destined for land-fill.

Lamount introduced its Linerless, Canvastex UV vinyl heatseal laminating film (for a canvas look) last month and has now added three of the more standard materials in the same format.

The new materials include, Linerless Gloss UV, Linerless Lustre UV and Linerless Matt UV.

Being thicker films than their counterparts, Gloss (100micron), Lustre and Matt (125micron), with UV inhibitors incorporated in to their composition, give additional protection and the vinyl component of each material gives flexibility and conformability, as well as those subtle finishes that enhance graphics, said Lamount.

Further versions using the same adhesive technology will be available within the next month and will include Sandtex (125micron), which is scuff and scratch resistant for trade show applications, POP displays and graphics, as well as Velvet (175micron) a polycarbonate 'look-alike' felt-type finish.

The company will also introduce Textured (175micron) a scuff resistant, non-skid material for floor graphics, trade show applications, counter mats and mouse pads.
