Labelexpo is opening of its new office in China in the prime Xu Hui district of Shanghai.

The office is said to underpin Labelexpo's commitment to developing its Chinese business and will support its expansion drive in the region.

Labelexpo Asia 2005, taking place at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre on December 7-9, is set to be over twice the size of the last event in 2003 and the organisation expects that growth to continue.

In addition to its current investment in China, Tarsus said that it also has a pipeline of products, including labels, in China that it plans to launch in due course.

Roger Pellow, Labelexpo's managing director, said: "Our new office in China is going to be very important for Labelexpo.

China is a unique place to do business and it is very important to understand and respect the Chinese way.

The label industry in China is still in its early stages but as the Chinese printing sector matures (which it will do, as has happened in Europe and the USA), so will the niche Chinese label industry." He added: "We view China as one of our biggest sales growth areas.

When we first launched in to the USA with Labelexpo Americas it was interesting to see that whilst our international exhibitors, who come with us to every country, formed the initial bulk of the show, as time went on local exhibitors joined and now American exhibitors form more than 60 per cent.

We expect to see this replicated in China and look forward to continued success in that incredible part of the world.".
