Alterio Associates, the North American distributor for Lithotechnics of Sydney (Australia) has demonstrated and donated a copy of Metrix 1.5 to the executive staff at PIA/GATF headquarters in the USA.

"It is fair to say the staff was extremely impressed with the capability of Metrix to streamline production whilst minimising waste," said Brian Alterio, the president of Alterio Associates.

The print production staff at PIA/GATF was enthusiastic about integrating Metrix in to its workflow.

Rick Wagner, the production manager and senior estimator said: "We're looking forward to using Metrix to rationalise our planning process here.

The Metrix interface is very easy to understand." According to George Ryan, the executive vice president and chief operating officer of PIA/GATF, said: "Metrix is an exceptional tool to increase throughput in job planning and pre-press as well as in the pressroom.

The donation from Lithotechnics will enhance the training programs at PIA/GATF." Metrix is claimed to be the first truly automatic layout calculator designed specifically for estimators, customer service representatives, production planners, and pre-press operators.

The new 1.5 version is claimed to plan up to 100 products, all of different sizes and quantities, mixtures of flat and folded work and each with different bleeds and grain direction requirements.

Rohan Holt, Lithotechnics' founder, said: "Gang printing is very profitable and more and more commercial printers are using Metrix to capitalise on the opportunity.".
