The new digital printer is said to have been designed to meet the specialised requirements of wayfinding and traffic signage printers, window graphics and other applications that require short-run, high-durability two-colour printing.

The Matan Spot36 is a wider format implementation of the best features and qualities of the Matan Spring12 printer, said the company.

The Spot36 is equipped with Kyocera print heads, which enable miles of non-stop quality printing at a speed of up to 885 feet per hour (270 metres per hour) it is claimed.

The Spot36 shares the same design as the Matan Spring and it is claimed to print up to two colours in one pass in up to 400 dots per inch (dpi) x 1, 200dpi resolution.

Media width is up 36.6" (930mm) and printing width is up to 36.38" (924 mm).

Ribbons have been developed for the printer and include a spectrum of spots, special traffic red, blue and green, shiny metallic gold and silver, etched and opaque white, said Matan.

The printer supports a range of media, including reflective traffic materials.

"The Matan Spot36 fills the niche of a moderately priced digital printer for specialised high durability two-colour applications," said Hanan Yosefi, Matan's president and chief executive officer.

He added: "It is particularly suitable for outdoor applications, such as wayfinding and traffic signage and for window decoration graphics.

It is already installed and in production at customer site in the USA and it will be presented on Matan's stand during Fespa Digital Printing Europe 2006." In Fespa 2006, where Matan's stand will be C725, the company will also exhibit the Springpro six-colour digital label and tag printer.
