Markzware has announced the immediate availability of Flightcheck Professional v5.8.

The update is available for both Flightcheck Professional and Flightcheck Designer for Macintosh and Windows platforms.

Flightcheck Professional 5.8 now has expanded PDF checking based upon the Ghent PDF Workgroup's (GWG) PDF/X-PLUS specifications.

Now, Flightcheck comes with built-in 'ground controls' that validate PDFs to the GWG specifications for more secure and productive digital workflows.

Patrick Marchese, the chief executive officer of Markzware, said: "By including practical PDF/X-PLUS validation within our new Flightcheck 5.8, this will surely help our customers establish better PDF processes within their workflows.

Since 1995, PDF pre-flighting has been Markzware's main focus, so our recent efforts in obtaining compliance with Ghent Workgroup specifications further solidifies our role as a technology leader in this market." Peter Maes, GWG's technical officer, commented: "The Ghent PDF Workgroup is delighted that Markzware has made its software compliant with the GWG Version 2 Specifications.

Most of the GWG compliant systems today focus on the PDF creation and control.

With Markzware software being now compliant with GWG Version 2 Specifications, the control is also moving upstream to the layout stage of production." A number of other customer suggestions have been implemented and the new upgrade, said Markzware, including improved handling for gradients and blends, embedded ICC profile detection for Photoshop EPS, improved text overprint reporting for PDF and better artificial text styling detection for PDF, along with detection of special print options for Indesign files.
