Combined with the dampening solution preparation system provided by Technotrans, the contract is for Detroit Newspapers' production site in Sterling Heights, Michigan and is one of the largest investments by a newspaper company in the USA.
The Geoman comprises 300 printing units, 60 reel changers and six 2:5:5 jaw folders.
With a maximum speed of 75,000 copies and 37,500 cylinder revolutions per hour the current production speed at the plant will be doubled.
The new rotary printing presses are intended for an area of 17,650 mư, which is part of an area of 46,450 mư in Sterling Heights.
Construction is scheduled to be started at the beginning of 2004 and will take about three and a half years.
The project is rounded off by a new warehouse system and a capacity increase in the dispatching department.
Detroit Newspapers publishes the Detroit News with a print run of about 540,000 copies including the Saturday newspaper and the Detroit Free Press with a print run of 741,000 copies from Monday to Saturday.
