The UK's Guardian and Observer Newspapers is to buy three MAN Roland Colorman presslines, each of which will have 10 towers and two folders, plus the Aurosys materials logistics system The value of the order is GBP 50 million (75 million Euros)

The presses are claimed to be able to produce full four-colour newspapers with a 470mm x 315mm page size.

The presslines are to be installed on a steel substructure, whilst Auroload, MAN Roland's fully-automated reel loading system, will also be installed to feed the 10 reel splicers of each pressline that will paste on the run.

All printing units comprise eight-couple towers in a nine-cylinder system and two in the 10-cylinder system, a combination that permits great flexibility in newspaper production, claimed MAN Roland.

All printing units and folders will be driven separately by an AC motor and all printing towers will be equipped with MAN Roland Turbo dampening units and blanket washers.

Each pressline will have a folder superstructure with two former levels and a double folder with a 2:5:5 cylinder ratio.

They will be operated via the Pecom Production Manager that controls printing and which, with its Prepresslink, provides interfaces to pre-press operations.
