New Press Prints Commercial Jobs During Training
Gateshead (UK) NW Printers has its 18,000 sheets per hour MAN Roland R500 press up and running and already working a double-day shift.
The company will provide products for both the water based market and for UV coating.
To aid the move in to new territory, MAN Roland has appointed former Bousfield coatings specialist Bryan Terry to provide technical support for both the sales team and for end users.
Terry has 35 years of experience in the coatings market, said the company.
MAN Roland GB's marketing director, Murray Lock, commented: "Our chemistry supplier, Fujihunt, recently acquired a German-based coatings manufacturer, which has given us immediate access to a quality product.
We also believe that the increase in requests from our consumables customers for coatings has come as a result of the demise of the Bousfield operation, which was the market leader in the coatings sector." Lock believes that the UK market for coatings is worth in the region of GBP 21 million, with the demand for water based coatings still growing at approximately eight per cent annually.
Lock added: "Currently we estimate that UK printers are consuming some 18,000 tonnes of water based coatings.
We are entering this market with an exclusive product, not a re-badged item and we see additional differentiation with the excellent technical know-how that we will be able to offer customers through the appointment of Bryan.
Unlike some of our other consumable items we will not be charging premium prices in the coatings arena but we are still keen to promote the products as premium items, enhanced with the very best in technical support.".
