Networking And Workflow Focus At Drupa
MAN Roland has announced it is to emphasise a strong theme for its presence at Drupa 2004.
In addition, a third level former section will be added to each of the 10 presses to produce a six-section product when running in the straight mode.
"MAN Roland provided a solution with high overall value and has a great track record in terms of project management.
We were also impressed with the quality of the equipment and their focus on innovation through investments in research and development," said Tony Hunter, vice president and director of operations for Chicago Tribune.
The Colorman extensions will be added without disrupting production at the Tribune's Freedom Center printing and distribution facility.
It will necessitate a two-year installation schedule.
MAN Roland project managers will be permanently onsite, starting in Autumn 2004, to supervise each phase of the operation.
"Our add-on experts have a depth of experience in completing extension projects in Europe, most recently at the Suddeutsche Zeitung in Germany.
The Chicago Tribune order is an opportunity for us to prove how well we can handle sophisticated installations in North America.
We are not only supplying add-on equipment and expertise to Chicago Tribune, we're acting as general contractor, responsible for delivery of a turnkey solution," said Vincent Lapinski, chief operating officer of Web Operations at MAN Roland.
At Chicago Tribune it will require the application of a considerable amount of engineering, since MAN Roland will be using a number of components from other manufacturers, including digital inkers and spray dampening units.
In addition, the Colorman towers will be equipped with lock-ups to accommodate the plates that the newspaper is accustomed to using.
