3 MAN Web Presses For Italian Publisher
Il Sole 24 ORE, the European economic and financial media group, has ordered three MAN Roland Regioman web offset presses, to be delivered in 2005.
The new web presses are to replace existing machines, and will provide a boost to productivity, quality and competitiveness in both German plants, one located in the south and the other in the north.
Joachim Kuhn added: "The MAN Roland package meets our needs in all respects." The package consists of three web offset book printing systems in a single-level design.
One feature was the shortest possible make-ready times, and so all three presses will be equipped with the MAN Roland PPL (Power Plate Loading) system, automated Megtec reel splicers with integrated infeed units, Oxy-Dry blanket washing units, and automatic ink supply systems for all printing units.
On top of that, two of the blanket-to-blanket printing units of the Rotoman and one of the Lithoman are to be equipped with the Dynachange system that permits plate changing on the fly for changing signatures or imprints at a speed of 40,000 cylinder revolutions per hour, said MAN Roland.
All presses are to have the same folder superstructure which, according to MAN Roland, is designed for uncomplicated, streamlined production.
The system 1:5 gripper folders are also productive, and all three presses will have the Hycon cut-off register system, which is coupled with the drives and indirectly controls web tension to ensure the highest precision even at maximum speed.
It is not uncommon to find more sensitive grades of paper being used for book printing.
The ink absorbs differently on this type of paper, takes longer to dry, and tends to smear.
Therefore, MAN Roland book printing presses are equipped with Megtec absorption-aiding systems and chilling units.
With annual sales of more than 350 million Euros, Groupe CPI has positioned itself as a partner to publishers in the fiction and non-fiction book segment.
The contents of the books are generally printed in one or two colours, whereas multi-colour and coated covers are being used more as a sales aid at point-of-sale.
The German subsidiaries also follow the Groupe CPI corporate philosophy.
"We offer a full service from pre-press through multi-colour sheetfed and web printing, brochure and hard cover binding, plus logistics services," explained Joachim Kuhn.
Sixty million books per year are produced by Ebner and Spiegel, half of which are paperbacks and half hardbacks.
With a staff of 500 the company has annual sales of around 65 million euros.
Clausen and Bosse in Leck employs 600 people and has annual sales of paperback and hardback books amount to more than 90 million Euros.
