Mayhew McCrimmon Printers in Great Wakering (UK) has placed an order for a five-colour Roland 700 B1-format press complete with dedicated UV coater and dryer.

Mayhew McCrimmon Printers in Great Wakering (UK) has placed an order for a five-colour Roland 700 B1-format press complete with dedicated UV coater and dryer.

The company, which also runs a Polyman 16pp six-colour web press from MAN Roland, looked at a variety of sheet-fed press, including the possibility of a long-perfecting press.

Mayhew McCrimmon's managing director, Bob William, said: "That seemed, in many ways, to be replicating what we already had with the web press.

If we were looking to add extra services then a UV-based coating press made a lot more sense - giving us the opportunity to create added value print with high-gloss covers, spot UV varnish, plus high quality metallics." He added: "Given our experience with the Polyman, including the good performance of the press and the excellent service and back-up that we had received from MAN Roland, the choice of supplier was pretty straightforward." The dedicated anilox coating system and UV dryer on the B1-format five-colour press will provide for the production of covers for magazine work already printed on the web press.

The company also anticipates that the machine will open the door for new business.

Twenty-six year old Mayhew McCrimmon produces work for magazines, leaflets and promotional work.

The MAN Roland press is just the latest announcement in a continuous investment programme that included a new mailing line in 2005 and the first MBO folder in the UK to be fully-automatically adjustable, claimed the company.

The pre-press area is also being upgraded for the arrival of the new press.

The company is changing its Agfa Apogee PDF workflow to the latest 3.0 version and installing Delano Published 2.6 web approval software, along with a B1 format Agfa Avalon thermal computer-to-plate system.
