MAN Roland's growth continued in the first half of 2006 with an order intake of EUR1,070 million - 22 per cent up on the same period in the previous year.
The company also stressed that the sales increase figure did not include the large order from News International that amounted to EUR281 million in 2005.
Sales revenues of EUR908 million exceeded the figure for the previous year (EUR755 million) by 20 per cent.
The company said it is the best mid-year result in the group's history.
Compared to the same period in the previous year MAN Roland improved its operating result by EUR55 million to EUR48 million (compared to the previous year's loss of EUR7 million) with a return on sales reaching 5.2 per cent.
In both business areas the MAN Roland Group consolidated its market position or built on it, said the company.
Thanks to very intensive project activities the web press business area has a good order backlog that will keep the production facilities busy well in to 2007, whilst the average order backlog for sheetfed presses is more than five months.
The company added that it believes the prerequisites for a successful 2006 fiscal year are in place.
Based on the order backlog and the good global economy, MAN Roland expects further growth in its volume of business in the 2006 fiscal year with very good operating results.
In sheetfed, business volume growth, lower costs and much higher productivity led to operating results improving by EUR38 million to EUR9 million.
Good utilisation and a higher level of sales saw the results in web presses climb by EUR17 million to EUR39 million (compared to the first half of the previous year at EUR22 million).
Order intake rose by 22 per cent to EUR1,070 million compared to EUR880 million in the previous year (the large order from News International is not included in the comparison).
As a result the order volume for the company's web press area grew by 28 per cent to EUR579 million (compared to the previous year's EUR452 million not counting News International) and in the Sheetfed Press Business Area by 15 per cent to EUR 491 million (previous year EUR 428 million).
Due to the good order situation sales for the web presses increased by 24 per cent to EUR489 million (as against the previous year that showed EUR394 million).
Compared to the previous year sheetfed business had a good order backlog at the beginning of this year (57 per cent above the previous year) and sales rose by 16 per cent to EUR419 million.
Sales for the previous year were EUR361 million.
At June 30 the MAN Roland Group employed a permanent staff of 8,783 people (8,983 at June 30 2005).
Over 4,000 of those worked in the sheetfed press operations and 4,415 in the web press operations.
