Avalon Print, Northampton (UK) a B2-format short-run to medium-run printer, has ordered a new Roland 505LV press equipped with MAN Roland's Colorpilot system.

Avalon Print, Northampton (UK) a B2-format short-run to medium-run printer, has ordered a new Roland 505LV press equipped with MAN Roland's Colorpilot system The company currently runs two Roland 305 presses

One of them will be traded back to make way for the new five-colour Roland 505LV with coater, which will arrive on site at the beginning of December.

Avalon managing director Darren Briers commented: "We certainly looked at what other suppliers had to offer.

It was a close run thing for sure, but MAN Roland came up with the best configuration - the right press for the right price.

This investment will help us to stay ahead of the competition because trading is still hard and it is essential to keep investing in the very latest and best equipment to produce jobs in the most economical way." He added: "The new machine will help us to drive make-ready times down even further, and will also enable us to work towards a JDF-based workflow, with MAN Roland's Printnet linking in to our Creo platesetting system.

The addition of the Colorpilot system will also ensure that we are able to manage our colour consistency accurately throughout the run." MAN Roland said that Colorpilot measures a complete print control strip from the printed sheet, attends to automatic calibration and displays any deviations on the screen in less than 14 seconds.

Correction of the ink slide positions takes four seconds because all of the printing units are regulated simultaneously.

The latest press order also incorporates a dedicated coater.

Briers explained: "The dedicated coater means that we can offer customers an enhanced range of finishes to their work and also allows us to handle the sheets quickly once they are printed.

We were also impressed by the Roland 500's ability to handle heaver weight stocks - up to 1mm thick.

That opens up additional business opportunities for us." Avalon Print produces a range of business-to-business marketing materials, including specialist brochures.

It believes that it is right to stay in the B2 sector as it provides fast-turnaround B2 colour printing for which it has built a reputation.

Commenting on the order, Gary Doman, sales director for sheet-fed and finishing products at MAN Roland GB, said: "The Roland 500 is proving particularly popular at the moment with commercial printers here in the UK.

It is a machine that offers excellent print quality and also a range of add-on features that provide for real-world benefits.".
