Point-of-sale specialist SPS Group in Dorset (UK) has ordered its first large format litho press - a Roland 900XXL.

Point-of-sale specialist SPS Group in Dorset (UK) has ordered its first large format litho press - a Roland 900XXL.

Installation of the machine is now underway at the SPS Group, with completion expected by the end of January.

The five-colour plus coater machine is claimed to be capable of handling substrates up to size 8 (1,300mm x 1,850mm) and in thicknesses up to 1.2mm.

The machines ability to handle thicker materials means that SPS Group will be able to print on e-flute, f-flute, peel-back plastics and other PVC and plastic products, said MAN Roland.

The machine will be equipped with MAN Roland's Inline Observer camera system, providing the press operator with detailed views from inside the machine, helping to ensure the smooth travel of tricky substrates, added the company.

On-the-run colour quality will be maintained by the inclusion of MAN Roland's Colorpilot Plus system, which also helps to ensure consistency from one print run to the next by storing the customers colour preferences for future re-use.

SPS saw a demonstration of the press at the R M Group in Sweden.

Leigh Tryhorn of SPS Group, said: "With our new litho press we now have more variety, flexibility and efficiency capabilities than ever before and can respond to a client's brief, printing all material under one roof." The SPS Group said it forms partnerships with retailers, brand owners, agencies and print management companies to provice cost effective, targeted retail point of sale and promotional campaigns.

The SPS Group began 30 years ago as a family business.

Still privately owned, the printing plant occupies a purpose-built facility in Ferndown on the edge of the New Forest.

SPS has in-house finishing space, staff and specialist large format equipment allowing it to produce a range of standard and bespoke cardboard engineering products.
