MAN Roland installed the first DICOweb heatset press at Stampfli in the autumn of 2002 - a world's first at that time.
The DICOweb is a web offset press designed to produce high-quality print products in short runs with fast job turn-around times, said the company.
The company claimed that the press is the only offset machine in the world with integrated imaging and de-imaging of the print form as no printing plates are needed.

3 MAN Web Presses For Italian Publisher
Il Sole 24 ORE, the European economic and financial media group, has ordered three MAN Roland Regioman web offset presses, to be delivered in 2005.
In every printing unit there are two imaging stations that use a tape to transfer the form to the surface of the form cylinder.
After the job is printed the form is removed by a de-imaging unit and the cylinder can be imaged again for the next job.
In the past three years Stampfli has printed 74 million sheets on the DICOweb, 90 per cent of them for magazines, which MAN Roland said is an impressive performance for a pilot installation.
Peter Stampfli commented: "With any press other than the DICOweb we could not have achieved our targeted production growth, neither in terms of profitability nor turnover." Stampfli Publikationen has an average annual growth rate of around four per cent.
Peter Hubacher is manager of publishing services and magazines at Stampfli and he explained: "This new press will help us to build on our leading position as a producer of short-run to medium-run magazines." Stampfli Publikationen produces 100 magazine titles with circulations ranging from 5,000 to 90,000 copies which is more than any other company in Switzerland.
The average length of runs produced on the DICOweb lies between 5,000 and 8,000 copies.
Some 4,000 jobs are printed on the DICOweb each year.
The company said that rapid updates and a wide range of publications demand automated processes.
Added to that, uncompromising process integration - from editorial input through graphic design, media-neutral data management and production - means that Stampfli can make full use of the DICOweb advantages.
MAN Roland said that with a minimum of interfaces and its integration, the press provides many possibilities for optimising the publication process in terms of short delivery times and economical production.
Already with the first DICOweb that enabled Stampfli to not only shorten turn-around times and bring editorial and advertising deadlines closer to press start-up time.
It also made it possible for the company to implement new publishing services, such as partial editions, customer-specific issues or trial runs.
MAN Roland added that the new generation DICOweb is also based on the proven DICO technology, although the second DICOweb for Stampfli features some new developments that reflect experience gathered with the pilot press.
Web speed has been increased from 3.5 metres per second to 6 metres per second with its new sheets per hour speed claimed to be 17,420).
In addition, a dryer has been modified to match the higher web speed, whilst revised inking units and metrology have been adapted accordingly.
A further new development is that make-ready times for the DICO process have been reduced by one-third, added the company.
The new DICOweb is to be equipped with a high-performance system 1:3:3 pin-type folder proven for years on Rotoman presses, said MAN Roland.
The folder is said to permit higher speeds and can be converted from collect to non-collect production for eight-page and 16-page products.
For MAN Roland the order placed by Stampfli Publikationen is an important confirmation of its investment in DICO technology.
Paul Steidle, member of the executive board at MAN Roland, who is responsible for the web press business area, said: "The successful development partnership with Stampfli is living proof that MAN Roland's investments in ultra-modern printing technologies pay off.
Thanks to this cooperation the new generation DICOweb will also prove its performance capabilities in daily production." At the same time that developments to the DICOweb are being made, MAN Roland is also working on applying DICO technology to other market segments, it added.
