Six-Colour B1 Roland Press First Of Kind In UK

New B1 and B2 presses from MAN Roland GB have been ordered by Newcastle (UK) printer, BLP, which produces a range of commercial, packaging and direct mail print.

The B1 format Roland 700 Hiprint press will be a replacement for a six colour Roland 700 machine and will be the first of its kind in the UK.

The B2 press will provide additional capacity and flexibility.

The Hiprint machine will run alongside an five-colour Roland 700.

The Roland 700 Hiprint is claimed to be able to print up to 740mm x 1,040mm sheets with a thickness range from 0.04mm to 1.00mm, making it suitable for a range of packaging production.

The machine for BLP will be installed complete with MAN Roland's Colorpilot system to help the press operator to maintain colour consistency throughout the printing run.

Colorpilot is said to measure a complete print control strip from the printed sheet, attends to automatic calibration and displays any deviations on the screen in less than 14 seconds.

Correction of the ink slide positions takes four seconds because all of the printing units are regulated simultaneously, added MAN Roland.

Colorpilot will also be included with the B2 press.

Derek Ord, BLP's sales and marketing director, said: "The new Roland 700 Hiprint will bring us right up to date in terms of productivity, colour control and make-ready speed.

It's a six-colour press with coater and is fully specified for UV production, giving us the capability to produce just about anything that our customers want to give us to print.

It's the ideal press for our product mix.

The machine has a tremendous reputation in the packaging sector but is also suited to both direct mail and general commercial print." He explained: "The B2 press will provide a more efficient means of producing shorter run work.

With some run lengths shortening, this will allow us to move certain work on to the B2 press, freeing up the B1 for longer run work.

It's about maintaining profitability on all work that comes through the factory and we believe that we will be able to do that more effectively by having both formats available to us.".
